This week’s program will feature renowned local historian and raconteur Jim McAllister. Jim will entertain and inform us with some of his favorite North Shore Stories. Jim McAllister is a Salem historian, photographer, author, newspaper columnist, teacher, tour guide and founder of Derby Square Tours. He has appeared on many regional and national television shows, and is the author of one book about Salem and the co-author of another. From 1999 to 2012 he wrote a weekly local history column for the Salem News. Jim has served as an historical consultant to the City of Salem, the Hawthorne Hotel, the Peabody Essex Museum, and a host of other local organizations and institutions. His honors include the Hawthorne Hotel's ‘Preservation Award’ and, in 2008, both the Essex National Heritage Commission's ‘Heritage Hero Award' and the North of Boston Convention and Visitor Bureau’s ‘Storyteller Award’. During the pandemic, Jim has provided a weekly series of virtual lectures that has brought cheer and comfort to the residents of Salem and many North Shore enthusiasts across the country. |
